Read & learn from comments of other students

These are just a few of the ways you can use the Library’s Facebook page.

We think Facebook is great for conversations & sharing ideas and experiences

For example, in May this year we asked our students to share one thing they learned about the library so that everyone could learn from each other. There were some great comments which we hope will have helped our new students who started in September, including…

We hope you find our Facebook page a welcoming and informative online space where you can communicate with the library and other students from around the world who study on University of Sunderland programmes.

Find your space to sparkle in this winter!

As this is the season of sparkle and festive cheer, this month we’re having conversations with you about the different learning spaces we have in our  libraries…IT spaces, silent spaces, group study spaces, quiet spaces, social spaces or our online spaces. Everyone learns in different ways and depending upon your mood or the task you need to do, you will find different study and social environments to suit you. So, where do you find your space to sparkle?

Share why you like your favourite library space and how it helps you - you could win one of these sparkly prizes:

  • iPad Mini
  • Amazon Voucher
  • Printing Credits

You can share by posting sparkly comment cards within the library spaces and also on our sparkly trees. Please include your University email address with your comment if you’d like the chance to win one of our sparkly prizes.

Or, if you prefer you can post your comment online via our twitter and facebook pages.

Please use the #sparklespace hash-tag and help share the magic!

You only have until the 18th December to share your sparkly thoughts and comments, so get posting and tweeting!

We don’t like waiting. Do you? Why wait for reservations when you can read key business ebooks now at the library catalogue…

These business textbooks get quite heavily reserved, as they appear on your reading lists as ‘essential reading’ - but why wait in a reservation queue, when you can read them right now at the library catalogue…

ebook ‘wobblers’ in action at University of Sunderland Libraries

image

Have you seen our ebook ‘wobblers’? They’re popping up in all of our campus libraries - University of Sunderland librarians want to save students’ time, stress (and money) so we always buy an e-copy where it’s available.

If you have a smart phone, scan a wobbler (with a QR reader app) to take you straight to the library catalogue to check for an ebook version.

Here’s a wobbler in action in St Peter’s Library short loan section (click on the image to watch a short YouTube video of us looking for a popular business book)

image

There are lots of easy to use free QR readers and barcode scanners available for iPhone, Android, Windows and other mobile operating systems too.

So now there is no need to “throw a wobbler”, because you can scan a wobbler instead!

Tourism, Hospitality and Events Ebooks on Demand - Did you know you’ve been buying ebooks for the Library?

For the past few weeks we’ve been trialling a new service which has allowed all our library users to purchase ebooks for the library via the library catalogue… so, if you clicked on an ebook you wanted to read in the past few weeks you may well have bought us a new book for the library because if we didn’t have the book in stock it was automatically bought when you clicked through to read it.

Altogether you helped us buy 195 new ebooks. Here a selection of the titles you chose which relate to the modules taught in Tourism, Hospitality and Events

(click through to read them and see what you think):

Although this trial has now ended we hope it has made research easier for you - hopefully we can offer this as a full service in the next academic year.

In the meantime if you can’t find the resources you need why not access our interlibrary loan service, contact a member of library staff or the librarian for your subject - we’re here to help.
